The Queens of Pop: a look at today’s US Press
After taking a look at how the Uk press covered Elton John‘s attack towards Madonna, here’s a look at what’s in today’s Us press.
Rocket fire: Loose lips sync Material
Stand back. The two Queens of Pop – Madonna and Elton John – are going at it.

Proving that the bitch is back (as if he ever left), Sir Elton has accused her Madgesty of lip-syncing on her latest tour. The Rocket Man launched into a expletive-laced rant yesterday in London when, picking up a songwriting award from Q music magazine, he learned that Madonna had been nominated for Best Live Act.
“Anyone who lip-syncs in public onstage when you pay £75 [$134] to see them should be shot,” he told the event’s audience. “Madonna, best [bleeping] live act?” huffed Elton. “[Bleep] off.”
Recognizing the grave consequences of his remark, he added: “[I’m] off her [bleeping] Christmas card list, but do I give a toss? No.”
Madonna’s rep Liz Rosenberg responded: “Madonna does not lip-sync nor does she spend her time trashing other artists. “She sang every note on her ‘Reinvention’ tour live and is not ashamed that she was well paid for her hard work.” She went on: “Elton John remains on [Madonna’s] Christmas card list whether he is nice…or naughty.”
Elton has made other cutting remarks about Madonna over the years, Rosenberg said, but “he professes to ‘adore her.’ I don’t know what his problem is. I guess his tiara is on too tight.”
Elton flipped out in Taiwan last month, when, confronted by a wall of flashing cameras at Taipei airport, he called the local media “rude, vile pigs.”
Elton rips Madonna’s “Lip Service”
From an article by Chris Erikson, The New York Post
Elton John flipped his wig at Madonna yesterday, blasting the Material Girl in an obscenity-laced rant for allegedly lip-syncing her way through live shows.
“Anyone who lip-syncs in public onstag when you pay 75£ to see them should be shot”, sneered Sir Elton, referring to the sky high ticket prices for Madonna’s Reinvention Tour.
The British popstar let loose during a London awards ceremony held yesterday by Britain bases Q Magazine after learning that Madonna had been nominated for Best Live Act.
“Madonna, best f-ing live act? F— off”, fumed Elton, who was there to collect a songwriting award. “Since when has lip-syncing been live?”. He ended his tirade saying “That’s me off her f–ing Christmas card list, but do I give a toss? No”.
But Madonna was still standing after Elton’s broadside, shooting back through publicist Liz Rosenberg that she’s never faked it.
“Madonna does not lip-sync on her Reinvention tour live and is not ashamed that she was well-paid for her hard work”.
And, perhaps in a sign that Madonna’s newfound spirituality has made her disinclined to hold a grudgem she added, “Elton John remains on her Christmas card list whether he is nice… or naughty”.
Yesterday’s outburst marks the second time John has made a scene in recent weeks. Brits have also heard the tart side of Madonna’s tongue. In 2001, britain’s Channel 4 had to apologise for the Material Girl‘s strong language after she awarded the world prestigious Turner Prize live on TV.
