Thumbs Up for Madonna and Cesaria
After publishing the Contact music article on the possible collaboration of Madonna with singer Cesaria Evora we received a lot of positive feedback from our readers.
Our friend Hamilton writes:
“Just want to let you know that I read the article about a possible rumored collaboration with Madonna and Cesaria Evora, and I was amazed by the story.
I’m one of Madonna’s greatest fans and also come from the CAPE VERDE islands. I was born there, but now I live in New York. I speak Criolo fluently as well as Portuguese. Not too many people know where Cape Verde Islands are, but I guess if you mention Cesaria Evora most people know who she is, especially in France. I never met her while I lived in Cape Verde, but she is definitely one of the Cape Verde’s greatest singers. She sings mostly folk songs, full of meaning, well written and versed in poetic prose. When one listens to her songs, some of them could bring tears to one’s eyes, if one understands the words. If you have never listened to any of her songs, I recommend her latest compilation of remixes called “Club Sodade” or Café Atlantico.”
Our Team Member and Music Critic Hubert is also interested in how this collaboration would be like.
“Very strange idea… what would it sound like? By the way, check out Cesaria Evora’s remix album (feat. Senor Coconut, François K, Carl Craig…) great grooves!
You can’t call Cesaria‘s music jazz. She is a traditional singer, carrying the capeverdean morna style around the world and mixing it with other traditionnal genres (salsa, cuban son, brazilian pop, fado…). She has previously recorded duets with Compay Segundo, Bonga, Charles Aznavour…
The remix album is called Club Sodade, and also features Kerri Chandler, Osunlade, 4 hero… la crème de la crème.”
