Tour Memories of Arnhem from Leander
Our friend Leander from www.leander-online.com attended in Arnhem both Madonna concerts.
The second day (September 9) he got the chance to be in the pit. Here’s his story:
“My friend Gisela participated with the Madonna MTV competition and she actually won VIP PIT tickets for Madonna’s last show in Holland! And ofcourse she brought me along as she knows how big of a fan I am! I was totally freaking out when she told me the news. I cried and screamed like a maniac! Me in the PIT! It’s just so unreal! My friend Francois didn’t had a ticket for the show on the 9th so I gave him my ticket. So the next day, September 9th, which I will never forget, we went to the venue again by car. I was not nervous yet, but I was very excited. It really didn’t got through to me yet. We arrived at Gelredome at about 4 o’clock in the afternoon. While we arrived we saw two policemen on their motorcycles escorting three cars to the back entrance of the Gelredome. It was Madonna, she arrived! We parked the car and we walked around. We had a good time listening to the sound check! We heard Burning Up, Material Girl, Nobody Knows Me, Music and Vogue! So cool! We also heard Madonna chatting a bit!
Me and Gisela were supposed to report ourselves at the Cashier of the venue at 6:30pm. We waited there for Allison Larkin. My friend Francois would have gone to the show alone, so we asked the security guy how it went the previous night and if they also picked random people. So we explained that we originally planned to go to see the show with a total of three people, and that we felt sorry that our friend, Francois, would now see the show alone. But it worked! Francois could go in the pit with us well! We walked to the PIT via backstage! We saw all the equipment and crew members behind the stage. It was awesome!
Just before 9pm the lights went off and the audience went wild! There were a few funny elements during the show. For starters, before The Beast Within, you heard Madonna saying: “Hi it’s Madonna, and I want to read you part of my new book, Mr Peabody’s Apples“. That was funny. I thought it was another warning saying people weren’t allowed to smoke, like the previous night.
Then it was showtime and I was in total shock when Madonna rised up on stage for Vogue! It was so cool to be in the PIT, like you are actually in the stage and everytime Madonna or one of the dancers got on stage from underneath you can actually see what is going on under the stage! So cool! Anyway, Madonna was on stage and she was so close! I was totally in awe! The whole show I was focused on her. She is so well toned! And she is really tiny! She is not that tall! Gosh, seeing her so close is like a dream come true. During American Life she came to both PITS and she shook my hand and I touched her leg and arm and it was like I was struck by lightning! I mean Madonna is in front of me!! I touched Madonna!! She touched me!! I mean that is something you can’t say everyday! Unbelievable! She also looked me in the eye a couple of times! She knows I am alive, hahaha! And that for two hours long!
I was totally Madonnafied after the show! It was really the best night of my life! No one can ever take that away from me. I will never forget it! Also it was the best show I ever been to! I mean I was a fan since I was 5 years old! I grew up with Madonna‘s music! And then almost 20 years later I see her up close and personal! Words can’t explain how psyched I am about this!! It was my last show I saw of the Re-Invention tour and it was one hell of a good one. An awesome experience to end my own Re-Invention tour! Someone pinch me, please!”
