Tribers’ Reviews: To all my fans, no matter what country you are from
Fans Reviews keep arriving at Tribe. Here’s what MadonnaTribe member fortpegs has to tell.
“The night came and went so quickly, it’s all still a blur. But one thing’s for sure, Madonna really rocked out in Canada!
I had awesome seats in Sec 118, right beside the stage. Madonna was 10 feet away from me when she came to the side, what a rush when she would look “right” at me (well in my general direction anyway). I wore a shirt that I made which read “CANADIANS DO IT BETTER” and underneath “(and so does Esther).” Alas, I don’t think M saw it. She would have asked me for it if she had 🙂 I also saw shirts that said “Richies Do It Better,” “Guy is my Homeboy” and “Esther Does It Best.” A guy with a flag (British?) caught M’s shirt.
Madonna‘s voice and performance were top-notch, probably better than the LA shows. Musically there were only a few minor changes, including Don’t Tell Me featuring Bittersweet Symphony and the “ever, ever, ever” extended ending. The crowd really responded to that. M dedicated “all my fans, no matter what country you are from.” At the end of Holiday she asked each section (Left, Right, Back, Floor) to repeat “Holiday” after her. This was different from what I’ve heard of the show previously, with some guy asking a question with the response of “Hell Yeah.”
The entire show was fantastc, but Like a Prayer was clearly the song of the night. She did have to tell a number of floor people to get up… why on earth would you be sitting, aren’t you there to have a good time? I was actually quite amazed at how many people were sitting down during the show, it was astonishing to me.
My personal faves of the evening were Nobody Knows Me, Burning Up (what I saw of it…), Nothing Fails, LAP, Into the Groove, and Papa Don’t Preach.
The Hollywood interlude was amazing as well, the dancers and performers were oustanding. And at the end of Holiday, Donna was on my side and I swear she and I were rockin’ out with each other! (I know everybody says that! haha!)
M mentioned the last time she came to Toronto she nearly got arrested, but now she’s a good girl (to wild applause). She said that she wished she hadn’t stayed away so long (again more frantic applause). She also asked how many people were from Canada, and how many from out of the country. I would say it was about 75/25. She did say a number of other Canada-specific things, but in general the show remained largely unchanged.
One unfortunate incident for me – I had my camera confiscated. Damn me for taking so many photos! I used an entire roll of film within the first 3 songs! Alas one of the security guys caught me and “escorted” me to customer service to check my camera. He tried to tell me off for bringing a camera, but I just got my tag and told him I didn’t want to miss any more of the show. Alas, I had missed most of Burning Up and Material Girl as a result. There were an insane amount of cameras to be picked up at the end of the show, so they must have caught quite a few people. On a side note, one of the security guards kept shining his flashlight into the audience, right in people’s faces. I don’t know why, but it was certainly distracting and unnecessary in my opinion.
I’m on the floor tomorrow. Hope everyone enjoyed the show!”
