More Selfridges tales from lucky fans. Here’s number 71 from the queue: The Beast Within.
“WOW… seriously how incredible was Thursday?
I truly never thought I’d get the chance to meet Madonna and have a proper conversation with her, but man, did I get my chance!
I had met Madonna very briefly one time before at the end of a show in Barcelona on the DWT 3 years ago, and it was so quick – it almost didn’t happen. But I still cling to that memory with dear life.
She walked past me with a towel over her head and said “Hi, thanks for coming, hope you enjoyed the show… bye!“
All I could say was “you’re amazing… I love you.” And then I burst into tears.
It was so formal and impersonal, but I still cherished this meting as I thought it would be the first and last time I?d ever talk to her “mage-sty”.
But, OH MY GOD!!!
Thursday 11th November really is a date in history for me and many Madonna fans alike.
Arriving at the back alley of Selfridges at 5:45am, I found myself being number 71 in line.
I was soon joined my a multitude of people that I recognised but had never spoken to before, but as anyone who was there will tell you, we certainly had time on our hands to get to know each other.
(Shout out to Nick, Amanda and Jon)
From 6am till 1pm we all exchanged stories and had a blast.
Time soon rolled round and we were all given our tickets and told that we would soon be allowed to enter the store. Excitement soon festered and everyone was all a fluster and worrying about what to say to Mrs.R
Finally, we all went in.
We then formed another line inside, and were asked several times by dear old people if we were waiting in line for Santa, which tickled a few of us.
Soon enough, we were told that the story telling session had commenced and excitement was rife. We all knew our time was nearing.
Finally, the queue ahead of me began moving and suddenly people emerged with signed books and tears of joy.
I knew my moment was approaching.
I was now facing the black curtain, and then I was given the nod to go on into the sacred room.
And sure enough, sitting behind a table almost hidden by a pile of books, there SHE was!
I stood on the X and waited to be gestured over.
I was then given the OK and I slowly walked towards M.
She sat there, a sensational vision.
Dressed to perfection in black, her face luminous with radiant beauty.
She delicately sat there and greeted me with a friendly warm smile; this was enough to start me crying.
I was actually face to face with Madonna, and I was flooded with an array of emotions.
I stood there trembling, eyes were already flowing and I was so ecstatic and excited but so incredibly nervous and overwhelmed.
She then opened her mouth to say “don’t cry, I won’t bite! My, this is a popular reaction today“.
I reached towards her with my hand, hoping she would shake it, and bless her – she did.
In taking my hand, she noticed my driving gloves and then said “Wow, gloves – FANCY!“
MADONNA THINKS IM FANCY!!!!!
I started to chuckle at this point.
She then asked my name, which she then repeated and said she liked my name very much.
She then said I looked familiar.
I swear, my heart stopped for a few seconds here – how could MADONNA possibly remember me?!?!?!
I then proceeded to tell her that I had been to every UK RIT show.
She then said “wow, that’s a lot of shows. I’m guessing and hoping you enjoyed them all!?!“.
To which I responded with “oh, it was amazing.’
She smiled, maintaining eye contact.
I was transfixed; I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.
She then asked “How long have you been waiting to see me?“
And I said ” Erm… 21 years!” We both laughed.
She then said “No… Today! How long today?”
I then told her my tale.
She then said “oh my, in that case I’m honored to meet you guys – I can’t believe you’d wait that long for me!’
I think she was genuinely touched by this.
I felt now was the perfect time to tell her how much she meant to me, how much I admired and respected her and inspirational to me she was.
She then gracefully and modestly said “Thank you, that means a lot to me to know I’m making a positive impact on my fans. That really is very kind of you to say. Would you like your book?”
I nodded with a huge grin on my face and took the signed book from her hand.
She then said “There you go… and take care” and I turned and walked away.
Turning back to say “I love you – thank you for your time”, and with that, I blew her a kiss.
She then winked to me.
I somehow then managed to leave the room, and that concluded the most amazing day of my life.
It all still seems so surreal, but something to remember – FOREVER!
Thank you Madonna, for making my dream come true and for being so unbelievably wonderful.
She was so much more than I could ever have hoped for.
I adore her now even more.
