African entrepreneur empowers women – Introducing Alivera Kiiza
Here’s a few more info about the Flight5065 ads campaign that has turned the image of Madonna in that of an African coffee trader in the UK media.
Every one of the three promotional artworks draws attention to African entrepreneurs who are creating extraordinary change in their communities, and an extra impact is guaranteed by a pun of words inspired by the role in real life of the celebrity whose face has inspired the ad. This is how Madonna becomes Alivera Kiiza with “African entrepreneurs empowers women“, Bill Gates is turned into Raymond Kimaro and “sparks network revolution while Virgin’s Richard Branson “launches airline” with the face of Willington Wamayeye.
Alivera Kiiza is a role model for women in the Karagwe District in Tanzania. She is the first woman to enter the management structure as marketing spokesperson for KDCU coffee co-operative.
“I am the first woman from my community to go to the UK, to go very far from my place. Many women come to ask me what I saw in London. I tell them it is the women in UK who buy Fairtrade products – I have seen this with my own eyes. I will talk about this at the Annual General Meeting of KDCU. As a result of the Fairtrade business we do with Cafédirect, women coffee farmers are joining co-operative societies. I will encourage them to sell the coffee they have in their own names instead of the names of their husbands. The future will be better for the women coffee farmers of Karagwe. They will become leaders of their co-operative societies in the villages. This campaign can be like a window for the women of Karagwe, a window onto a different world, the world of Cafédirect Fairtrade. Thank you for choosing Cafédirect 5065″.
