Billboard and Soundscan figures for Madonna this week
The first update of the day from our charts expert PierPinto couldn’t be devoted to anything but the final Billboard/Soundscan figures that bring Madonna on top of the US charts.
Not only “Confessions On A Dance Floor” enters the US Album chart straight to #1, but also “Hung Up” goes up in the Singles Chart, giving another Top Ten hit to the Queen of Pop, her first since 2002.
• HUNG UP USA Billboard Charts (Issue dated December 3-2005) “Hung Up” goes up 7 places in the Hot 100 Singles and enters the Top 10 at #7. This is Madonna’s 36th single in the Top 10, the first since “Die Another Day” that made #8 (2w) inl 2002. Unfortunately the airplay is not strong enough yet to push the single on top of the chart – being only at #47 in the Hot 100 Airplay this week. Downloads were 47,440 last week, putting “Hung Up” on top of the Hot Digital Songs. • CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR USA Billboard Charts (Issue dated December 3-2005) As everybody knows, “Confessions” debuted on top of the Billboard Top 200 album charts with a total of 350,606 copies including downloads on iTunes. This is Madonna’s third higher debut in terms od sales since the beginning of the Soundscan Era in May 1991. Previous Madonna album debuts: “American Life” Madonna 240,821 #1 Madonna becomes the sixth artist with the most #1 albums (she has 6) and is the second female artist following Barbra Streisand (8). Madonna is followed by Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson (5 #1 albums each). Artists with the most number One albums: Madonna is also the second female artist with the most Top 10 albums (16), with Barbra Streisand leading with 26 #1 albums.
