Brit memories from 2002
The Brits Awards celebrate their 25th edition tonight at London’s Earls Court, and The Scotsman brings back some tidbits from year 2002, when Sting was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award.
“Allegedly, the Lifetime Achievement award was offered to Madonna, but she passed because she thought the award implied she had passed her sell-by date. The organisers then turned to Sting, who begrudgingly accepted on condition that the title was changed to Outstanding Contribution to Music award. It is unclear who gained from this one, though, as, after the event, the tabloids claimed Sting took pot-shots at everything from the venue through to Frank Skinner?s capabilities as a host to the value of the award itself. All in all, a pretty good evening, then.”
