Contacmusic on Madonna’s rumoured cameo in Revolver
Are things heating up again or is this just the final shoot about Madonna‘s rumoured cameo appearance in hubby Guy Ritchie’s new movie “Revolver“?
Let’s have a look back to mid-May 2004, when the rumours started and Contacmusic.com published a story about Guy’s next movie project.
“Madonna is expected to play crime boss and casino owner Dorothy Macha in Ritchie’s new Las Vegas crime caper “Revolver”, which has been given a $27 million budget and also stars Jason Statham and Brad Pitt, who already worked with Ritchie in his 2000 movie “Snatch”.
A few clarification were added during the following months, including reports that Brad Pitt was no longer involved in the movie and that Ray Liotta was playing the role of Macha. Rumours started talking of a cameo appearance in the movie, something apparently denied in a short article featured on MTV News in November:
“Despite rumors to the contrary, Madonna told MTV Europe that she isn’t planning to do a cameo in her husband Guy Ritchie’s film “Revolver,” currently shooting in London.
Shooting of the movie took place in London and in the Isle of Man last fall, with Madonna herself being spotted on the set, reportedly being visiting her working husband.
Today contactmusic.com comes back on the subject:
“Madonna has been cut out of husband Guy Ritchie‘s latest movie – after shooting a cameo role as a female crime boss.
The blonde superstar, who endured scathing reviews for her cinematic collaboration with spouse Ritchie in 2002’s Swept Away, flew to England’s Isle of Man last November (04) to film her appearance in gangster movie Revolver – but has failed to make the final edit.
A source says, “Perhaps Guy did not want Madonna’s kiss of death on his latest movie, or perhaps he just decided the scene wasn’t quite right, but either way Madonna does not make the final cut.
“She did fly to the Isle of Man and spent a lot of time on the set.”
Was Madonna’s cameo actually taken in consideration, or even shot and taken off from the final cut later on then? It’s not hard to imagine what the press – especially that who seems to like gossip a lot – will love the most.
We don’t really have the answer in our pockets, but we would like to end this press review with the words of the movie director himself. This is Guy Ritchie talking about her wife’s role in the movie in an interview to Empire magazine:
“Not only does the film put Ritchie’s surreal humour on a back-burner (“It’s a lot more serious than my other movies”), there’s also no truth in the rumours that Mrs Ritchie, aka Madonna, has a cameo.
“No, she’s not in it,” he insists.
So the stories are made up? “Completely made up.”
He laughs. “That’s rare, isn’t it?”
