Cool Madonna items up for auction in Dallas
Our team member Axel informs us that another auction with a lot of cool Madonna items is coming up at Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers in Dallas, Texas on April 21 and April 22 2005.
Among the most interesting pieces there is a Madonna handwritten letter to Steven Meisel written circa 1991 on yellow notebook paper and it’s about working on the set of “A League of Their Own“. Part of the text that has been released says: “… I cannot suffer any more than I have in the past month learning how to play baseball with a bunch of girls (yuk) in Chicago (double yuk). I have a tan, I am dirty all day and I hardly ever wear make-up. Penny Marshall is Laverne, Geena Davis is a Barbie doll and when God decided where the beautiful men were going to live in the world, he did not choose Chicago.”
Other handwritten documents include lyrics to the song “Thief of Hearts,” with notations, written in blue and black ink on a sheet of white notebook paper and a black leather day planner used by Madonna in the mid ’80s crammed with handwritten notes (including a reminder to “call Mike Tyson re: Sport Aid”) and post-its.
Another interesting item is a set of 1/4″ reel-to-reel master tapes for Madonna’s self-titled 1983 debut album. The lot includes two reels with four tracks on each, including chart toppers “Lucky Star,” “Borderline,” and “Holiday,” and is marked with a recording date of 10/11/83.
LPs and Photo Proofs, Blond Ambition Tour jacket, an acetate of her first album, and a concert flyer for her early band “Emmy” complete the Madonna section of this auction.
