Dana On Stage And On the Record
It has been two yers, but it seem just like yesterday, it took me two weeks straight to call a radio station to win tix morning, day, and night. In 2003, I had never seen Madonna up close in person, because of the fact my only 2001 DWT show tix for NJ were canceled. So I was trying my hardest to win to be on the show so I could finally see the lady I adored, looked up to, and loved.
It was April 21st, the day before the show, and I was really nervous, I didn’t win any of the various internet contests, but that didn’t stop me from believing. The problem was, the radio station never gave me a specific time that they would give the tickets away so I had to stay glued and I was still in high school then too. So finally I found out the morning of April 21st at 7:50am they would give away those tix. They asked me a simple question of name 3 of Madonna‘s tours and I won the tix. I couldn’t believe it, that was the first time EVER I had won anything and to finally have my dream come true to see Madonna up close, in person is just the most surreal experience to this day.
The next day, April 22nd ‘American Life‘ came out. I had to line up at Mtv studios at noon and they kept us waiting outside for 3 hours until the show started while Madonna was still rehearsing. The show was originally going to be taped live but at the last second, it ended up being taped and shown later that night. It ended up being a 3 hr mini concert, taped from 3pm-6pm. She performed ‘American Life’ ‘Hollywood’ ‘Nothing Fails’ ‘X-Static Process’ ‘Like a Prayer’ its weird b/c I always felt like she performed ‘Easy Ride’ but it never made the final cut when aired. I remember her singing ‘full circle’ I would have to say my Madonna moment was when an Mtv guy grabed me to the arm and led me to the front. I felt like I was about to go to the moon. He led to me the mic which was only sitting on a 5 inch stage and when Madonna sat down to sing, she was in front of my face.
I was ‘Frozen’, in awe for those who have never seen Madonna in real life before, you would be absolutely stuck. She has the most beautiful eyes, that when she looked at me, went right through. I was within inches of Madonna it was the greatest. My jaw was dropped the whole time. The coolest thing was how Madonna was open to suggestions and in real life, she is really curious about what the fans think and want to know about her. I said one thing to her, that I managed to get out of my mouth, when she was taking requests on what to sing, I said ‘Madonna, you should sing ‘You’ll See’ and she said ‘You’ll See? You’ll See. . .’ and she said later on, It’s a ‘Secret’ meaning when she performed Like A Prayer and she said and its not ‘Secret’
She was answering all types of questions on and off camera. I wish that it was aired live and shown in the 3 hr full. It was the time of my life by far, and to have one of my favorite songs ‘Like A Prayer‘ I was just blown!
I hope Madonna does more of the mini-concerts in the near future and interacts with her fans as much as possible and I hope everyone gets the chance to see her up close. It is beyond words, it is and was ‘Madonna On Stage On the Record‘ Happy anniversary Darling LOL – thanks! Dana WTG.
