Emerging from a giant glitterball
And they’re off! Madonna, the queen of pop herself, kicked off the MTV Europe Music Awards 2005 in style by emerging from a giant glitterball amid an army of hunks to perform her latest single Hung Up. Clad in a purple leather jacket and, er, not much else she whipped the crowd in Lisbon into a frenzy, and one lucky member of the crowd walked home with her sunglasses when she hurled them into the crowd.
Host “Borat Sagdiyev” then took to stage, perhaps immediately breaking up a longstanding friendship with Madonna by labelling her a “transvestite”. Let’s hope black belt Guy Ritchie wasn’t watching?

Madonna opened the MTV Europe Music Awards in spectacular style tonight.
The Queen of Pop took to the stage in a leotard to perform new single Hung Up.
The 47-year-old showed off a figure someone half her age would envy.
The singer was not nominated for any awards but was determined to steal the limelight from the other acts. Opening the star-studded show in Lisbon, she emerged from a giant glitterball on the stage before peeling off her leather jacket to reveal her disco-inspired outfit.
She appeared at the event to promote her new album, Confession On A Dancefloor. The awards are being broadcast live on MTV to a potential audience of one billion people.
