Fever, Sly and GBI
Here’s some more about the work of Stéphane Sednaoui coming in from our friends at www.artmike.com.
“Directors Label from PALM will be releasing new work in september from Stéphane Sednaoui, Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer and Anton Corbijn (Dutch Pride!).
Kylie – as well as Madonnafans will be disapointed with the news that both Madonna’s Fever and the collaboration of Kylie and Towa Tei for GBI will not be included on the DVD with the works of Stéphane Sednaoui. The director of the videos for Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Björk, U2 and many others we feel has consciously decided not to include these videos on his DVD: the video he made for Massive Attack (Sly) shows close resemblance to the earlier made Fever video as well as the later made GBI. Sly contains the streamlined bodies from Fever and Kylie is an exact copy of the female singer from Sly in the streets of New York in a Geisha-outfit. Even the wigs (black for the black Nicolette and white for the white Kylie) have the same birds and flowers in it.
Last year we already told you that GBI probably wouldn’t make the final compilation. A shame, it would be the first time the video could be admired in DVD quality.
Stéphane could tell us one more newsbit: last year, when asked how he got in touch with Massive Attack, he told us:
“I was going to direct Bedtime Story for Madonna. I had ideas for this video but wasn’t ready for it yet. I decided I desperately needed a vacation. I took some time off and Madonna got impatient so she decided to work with Mark Romanek who was ready for her video.
After this I was aproached by Carole (Burton Fairbrother – from Massive Attack’s Teardrop) who asked me to direct a video for Massive Attack and I was in an extremely creative phase. There were a lot of things I wanted to do and eventually I mixed those ideas which resulted in the video for Sly.”
Art also prepared the montage you see on the right to shows the resemblance between the Fever, GBI and Sly videos. “If you ask me, Stéphane left out both Fever and GBI because they weren’t broadcasted as many times like Sly was. I probably would’ve decided to leave them out too” he says.
