Firefighters collect necessities…and Madonna
Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department counts a few oddities among items donated for Katrina victims.
Among the pallets of bottled water and clothing gathered Saturday at the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department for Hurricane Katrina victims were a few interesting items.
We appreciate everything we got, but some of it was a little misguided, said George Toms, a Sarasota County firefighter. People want to help any way they can.
Some of the items that didnt quite fit into the category of normal hurricane relief were cassette tapes of Michael Boltons greatest hits and Madonnas Like a Virgin, a hat used when riding horses and a bag of used prescription medications.
Its heartwarming, Toms said. But Im not sure if people can use some of that stuff.
