Julian Waters, Lotsa De Casha’s lettering designer
“Lotsa De Casha” has more than one visual talent involved in the book’s artwork. While Rui Paes is the author of the beautiful images that illustrate the book, Julian Waters, one of today’s most versatile and respected lettering designers, is the creator of the hand lettering that adornes the cover of the English edition of the book.
Julian’s work is represented in many books on calligraphy and type, and he has received awards for the Type Directors Club, Art Directors Club, Print Magazine, Letter Arts Review Annual. He has participated in many international exhibitions and has had one-man shows in Washington DC, Norway and Iceland. In 1997, a major exhibition of his work was shown at the Sidwell Friends School, including more than 80 works. Julian Waters was honored as the 1997 Rubenstein Memorial Guest Artist.
Unfortunately, as you may have noticed by our gallery of worldwide covers for Lotsa, it was not possible to create a custom made lettering for every language in which the book will be published. The Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese covers that we already had the chance to show you in the past weeks have a simple black on white lettering made using a traditional font.
