Lady of the manor
The lady of the manor is no lady. This is Madonna doing what she does best – reinventing her image.
In swirling skirt and cardigan and hair curled just so, the 46-year-old singer has embraced the genteel English countrywoman within.
You can almost hear the clink of tea-time china as she poses on the lawn of her Wiltshire estate – complete with clucking hens – for the U.S. edition of Vogue.
Madonna, who moved to England after falling for director Guy Ritchie, 37, has been flirting with a more traditional image for some time.
The woman who made her name with conical bras, shocking stage shows and even that coffee-table book of pornographic poses has espoused the delights of married life and being a mother to her children Lourdes, seven, and Rocco, four.
But some things don’t change. This perfectly turned out matron is the same performer who opened her act at the recent Live8 concert in London with a four-letter outburst.
