Latest rumours and tidbits about the Cannes Film Festival
A lot of Madonna fans can’t wait for some new release by the Queen of Pop, no matter if it’s a new single, a new album, a musical or her new documentary. This is why everybody will keep their eyes on the official website of the Festival de Cannes tomorrow, when reportedly the Official Selection of movies included in the various categories of the Festival (Opening Film, Competition, Out of Competition, Un Certain Regard, Cannes Classic and Cinefondation) will be revealed. This will probably be the last word about one of the most discussed topics of the latest weeks, and everybody will know if Madonna will be going to present her “Re-Invented : Process” sur la Croisette.
We have been trying to collect news and rumours from the past months in an article we showed you last week (click here in case you missed it). To let the picture be as complete as possible, let’s add the latest updates that don’t actually look very good. As you may have read if you’re a subscriber of the newsletter of our friends at the French magazine Spotlight or if you happened to read about it on our Forum, the latest rumours are saying that the project of bringing the documentary to Cannes will not materialize.
There’s another newsbit in the French press today, where newspaper Aujourd’hui en France also reports about Madonna’s documentary not going to Cannes anymore. It is important to note that there is no really big news in it. When the “Aujourd’hui en France” reported about Madonna going to Cannes to present the documentary they were basically reprising rumours floating around since a while.
In the same way, this is what they say today:
“After discussing about a possible partecipation in the board of jury of the upcoming Festival de Cannes, lead by president Emir Kusturica, Madonna has finally refused the offer of the organizing comitee. The singer, who was also due to come on the Croisette for the screening of “Re-Invented : Process”, a documentary on her latest world tour, will not visit Cannes anymore. Director Jonas Akerlund is actually far from the movie’s final cut. The film may be eventually shown at the Festival of… Venice, in September.”
As you can see, no big news again after the first rumours from Scottish newspaper Daily Mail at the end of last week. Madonna not coming, movie not being completed yet, and a speculation about a possible partecipation of Madonna herself in the Festival de Cannes official jury.
As we previously reported, we understand that there will be an official announcement about the documentary in due course. Let’s be patient and, of course, let’s keep checking the official website of the Cannes Film Festival and – no need to say – Madonna.com.
