Live 8 text lottery sets world record
More than two million text entries have been sent in the competition to win tickets for the London leg of Live 8.
The ticket procedure has earned a place in the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest text message lottery. The winners of the 75,000 pairs of tickets will be drawn at random by computer and notified by text before Thursday. Winner are able to collect their tickets by login to the dedicated section of www.live8live.com. Winning postal entrants will be sent their tickets by recorded delivery.
The deadline for pop fans to apply for tickets for the Hyde Park show to fight African poverty expired at midnight last night.
The text contest raised £3m stg (€4.49m) – about half of which will go to the Prince’s Trust with the rest covering the cost of staging the concerts.
Meanwhile, Live 8 organisers are in talks with internet auction site eBay to stop people selling tickets for a huge profit. Fans will not need tickets for the shows in Paris, Rome, Berlin and Philadelphia, but details of how to attend have not yet been released.
