Madonna and Johnny Carson
Our friend Steve aka Dye Another Day is back once again sharing his precious memories of long time Madonna fan.
“Hey guys,
Johnny Carson‘s death was huge news here in the States – he virtually invented the talk show format back in the 1960s. Of course, one of his most famous interviews was with Madonna in spring 1987.
Before introducing her, he said, “It’s been very exciting in the studio today.” It was her first talk show appearance. She said, “I thought if I should present myself as a virgin to anyone, it should be you.” Much laughter. She said she was “Just a Midwestern Girl. In a bustier.” About her father, she said, “He gave me lots of good old-fashioned values… to rebel against.” About her husband Sean Penn, she said he was “interesting.” When a fly zoomed around Johnny’s head, Madonna leapt from her seat and swatted it with her hands. “Hmmm,” she remarked, “must be that mousse you have in your hair.” About her plans, she said she finished a movie and was starting a tour in Japan, and they showed a clip from “Who’s That Girl.” As more and more years pass, I also appreciate Madonna’s history more and more.
From “American Bandstand” to Johnny Carson, Madonna had an acute sense of where to be.
peace,
Steve (Dye Another Day)”
