Madonna as Evita? I had doubts, but I was not disappointed
When Santa Cruz Sentinel corresponent Claudia Sternbach reviews Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s “Evita” on stage at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco – while describing the production as “good, but not worth crying for” – she also has words of appreciation for the Alan Parker cinematic release starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas.
“When the film version came out with Madonna, I was one of the first in line to buy a bucket of popcorn and settle in for a crying good time. Oh, I had doubts of course. But I was not disappointed. Madonna nailed it. And Antonio Banderas made a terrific Che. Who knew?”
