Madonna fronts iTunes phone launch
Yahoo! Music featured this story yesterday that brings a few details on how the Motorola campaign will be launched in UK and Ireland.
“The first mobile phone which plays music via Apple’s iTunes software has been launched by Madonna.
The queen of pop fronts a star-studded advertising campaign for the Motorola ROKR which will air later this month.
She appears in the commercial with Alanis Morissette, Iggy Pop and 10 other musicians and singers who try to squeeze into a phone box.
The Motorola ROKR phone can hold up to 100 songs, take photos and access the Internet. Users can transfer music from the iTunes jukebox on their Mac or PC onto the phone. Music can be instantly accessed via a single button. Songs will pause if the listener answers a call.
The phone will go on sale at The Carphone Warehouse.
Greg Estell, vice president of Motorola Mobile Devices Europe, said at the launch: “Music is hugely important to people the world over and we all have a soundtrack that describes our life. We want to give music lovers the opportunity to enjoy their favourite sounds on their mobile wherever and whenever they like.”
Other artists in the Motorola ROKR commercial are: MC Common, The Bravery, Michelle Branch, Amerie, Little Richard, Boosty Collins, Mya, Burt McCracken, Sonny Sondoval and the Notorious BIG.
The phone costs £209.99 on a pay-as-you-go basis, including £10 free airtime. It can be bought on a contract basis with O2 for £99.99 plus a monthly tariff of £16 or £19. The handset is free with various O2 monthly tariffs of £20 and above, The Carphone Warehouse said.
It will later be available from Orange, Virgin Mobile, and BT Mobile.”
