Madonna makes triumphant return to Koko
Madonna made a triumphant return to the Koko club last night – the same venue that marked her British debut 22 years ago, playing a five song set at the club – formerly the Camden Palace – to an audience of around 1,000 competition winners and loyal fans who queued through the night outside the venue to snap up the remaining 200 free tickets for the event.
To mark the occasion, Madonna performed her 1983 song “Everybody“, the club hit she had just released when she first played the venue. The 47-year-old also played her eleventh British number one single “Hung Up” to the devoted audience.
She told the crowd during the set: “The last time I played Camden Palace was 22 years ago. It was my first show in London and I’ve got to tell you it’s so fucking great to be back”.
Spotted in the audience were carrot-topped TV presenter Chris Evans, Bob Geldof, Neil Tennant and Stella McCartney.
