Madonna writing sequel to Roses
This is how BBC News summarizes the latest news about Madonna – the children’s book author:
“Madonna is writing a sequel to the first of her best-selling children’s books, The English Roses. Writing is already underway on the follow-up, which will be published in September 2006.
The pop star said the first book, which spent 18 weeks on the New York Times’ Bestsellers List, was closest to her heart and her daughter’s favourite. Madonna’s fifth book Lotsa de Casha, published this month, was thought to be the singer’s final book in the series. Each book is based on the teachings of the Kabbalah faith and features the work of a celebrated illustrator.
The English Roses, aimed at children over six, was published in 2003 and has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. The story follows four 11-year-old friends who are all “a little bit jealous of another girl in the neighbourhood” – a character based on Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes.
Madonna has said she wanted her books to have a message as well as inspire young people. The star does not receive any money for writing the books, but instead makes a donation to the Spirituality for Kids Foundation, an educational arm of the Kabbalah Centre.
