Madonna’s Leading Men: Adriano Giannini
Welcome to the third episode of “Madonna’s Leading Men“, a showcase of the actors who co-starred in Madonna‘s movies and videos, presented by MadonnaTribe combining a biography profile of one of Madonna’s Leading Men in the news page, and a related discussion about him in Tribers!, the Off-Topic section of MadonnaTribe’s Community Forum.
After talking about Goran Visnjic, Madonna’s partner in “The Power of Good-Bye” video and having a look at Golden Lobed winning British actor Clive Owen, her driver in the “Star” short film from BMW Films’ “The Hire”, it’s now time to meet the italian actor Madonna starred with in Guy Ritchie’s “Swept Away“, Adriano Giannini.
Son of actor Giancarlo Giannini and screenwriter and director Livia Giampalmo, Adriano Giannini didn’t show much interest in the show business but eventually started working behind the scenes at the age of 18 as assistant camera in her mother’s movie “Evelina e i suoi figli” (1990), starting a career that led him to work with talents like Dante Spinotti, Giuseppe Rotunno and Giuseppe Tornatore.
Acting was then a second step that came more than ten years later for Adriano, with studies, workshops and a cinematic debut in 2001 with Maurizio Sciarra’s “Alla rivoluzione sulla due cavalli” (“Off to the Revolution in a 2CV”).
The very same year Adriano was chosen by director Guy Ritchie for his remake of Lina Wertmueller’s “Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare d’agosto”. Legend says that Madonna and Guy didn’t know that the young talent they were going to work with was the son of Giancarlo Giannini, who played the same role in the original movie.
After working together on “Swept Away“, Adriano and The Ritchies met again during Madonna and Guy’s very intimate italian holiday in December 2003/January 2004.
The Ritchies spent part of their holiday in Rome, visiting churches and museums, but at the same time they met with old friends, and Adriano and his mother, director Livia Giampalmo, showed and explained to the couple paintings and art pieces displayed in the Santa Maria in Trastevere church, where Madonna was struck by the beauty of a painting of the sixtieth century called “Madonna con il bambino” (Madonna and Child). Adriano is now working as an actor and recently starred in movies such as “The Consequences of Love”, “Una Talpa nel Bioparco”, and can also be seen playing a small cameo as a museum director in Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Twelve“.
