Mamma mia, what a disco hit
Here’s the first enthusiastic review of Madonna‘s new single published today on Swedish newspaper Expressen that gives “Hung Up” an amazing 4 out of 5 rate.
“Madonna has seen the Abba-musical Mamma Mia eight times.
Her friends have told British papers that the Queen of Pop has become obsessed with Sweden’s largest music export. Here’s the proof.
The first single from her upcoming album “Confessions On A Dancefloor” is Abba’s Gimme Gimme Gimme. It’s not a cover, but it is as close as one can get without getting a lawsuit from Björn & Benny. Abba’s musical genious can relax. The whole point about Hung Up is that Madonna has understood the playful sexiness that made Abba’s music so succesful.
This is a disco hit that will do just as good in gay bars as on football stands, and to Madonna who now has having a hard time aging with dignity (kabbalah, lady of the manor look, that torture equipment that keeps her fit, the airbrushed pictures in the press), timeless Abba becomes her saviour.
The single is already featured in a commercial, and this is where I think Björn & Benny wakes up. It’s fun when fellow artists interpret your music, but is it just as fun when it becomes a commercial for cell phones on TV3?”
