Born Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, the American multi-Grammy Award winner has sold over 200 million albums worldwide, making her the most successful female solo artist of all time according to the book of Guinness World Records.
Madonna looks determined to hold on to that record with the release of her new album, Confessions On A Dance Floor which debuted straight at No. 1 on the US Billboard charts with over 350,000 copies sold. Confessions has also debuted at number one in 25 countries and sold over 4 million copies worldwide in its first week of release.
The iconic singer was a straight-A student and did well enough to receive a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan. But she abandoned a fledgling dance career for music, where she wrote a number of songs that brought her local fame in New York dance clubs. With Confessions, Madonna has returned to her dance-oriented material and brilliantly re-invented dance music for our time.
“It’s in her blood” says Madonna’s co-producer/partner in crime, DJ and Madonna musical director, Stuart Price. “She has a dance halo over her head. We made this record without any preconceived notions. It was straight from the gut, unencumbered, not over edited, very spontaneous,” concluded Price.
When asked to describe the songs on Confessions, Madonna had this to say, “I want people to jump out of their seats.” And jump they have, to the irresistible tune of “Hung Up”, the first single off the album. The mother of re-invention has creatively borrowed the hook from a classic ABBA hit and created one of the most exciting club hits ever to grace the dance floor. All 12 tracks on the album are a stunning leap into the dazzling world of “future disco,” and yet retain the familiar trademark sounds of the iconic superstar.
The resilent performer might have suffered serious injuries from a horse-riding related accident in August this year, but that did not hinder the singer from opening the Europe Music Awards barely months after with her troupe of dancers. Performing her brand new single “Hung Up”, the yoga practitioner proved her tenacity and grit with a rousing performance that pushed the adrenalin of the crowd to new heights.
“Confessions On A Dance Floor is all about having a good time straight through and non-stop.” says America’s ultimate Dancing Queen and world’s most famous Kabbalah devotee. So stop whatever you’re doing, get moving to the dance beats, and have the time of your life.
