New Madonna album tops US charts
This is how BBC News reports about Madonna topping the US album chart with “Confessions On A Dance Floor”.
“Madonna has achieved her sixth number one in the US pop album charts with new release Confessions On A Dance Floor.
Data from Nielsen SoundScan showed the album sold almost 350,000 in the week ending 20 November – her third consecutive US album chart topper.
The first-week sales fell short of Madonna’s 2000 album Music, but were more than 100,000 higher than those of her previous release American Life.
“Confessions” and its single “Hung Up” are currently number one in the UK charts. The album, which sees Madonna return to her disco music roots, has earned the singer some of the best reviews of her 22-year career.
“Some Hearts”, the first album from Carrie Underwood, the winner of the TV talent show American Idol, was a new entry at number two in the US charts, with sales of nearly 315,000.
According to recent figures from trade publication Billboard, overall US album sales this year are running about 14% lower than 2004.”
