Pop piper’s festival boost
Here’s another article from the Scottish press about the upcoming Piping Live festival and Lourne Cousin, the re-Invention tour bagpiper.
“A piper who toured the world with Madonna has promised to help put traditional Scots music at the top of the charts this summer. Lorne Cousin, 32, who performed on the pop diva’s Reinvention tour in 2004, has swapped the global stage to promote a Glasgow piping festival. It’s a big change from his days playing with Madonna who then prompted knitwear company Pringle to use him as a model on the catwalks of Milan.
But now the musician is taking a break from playing the bagpipes and modelling to concentrate on his career in land law. He is backing the Piping Live festival, which starts in August. It will celebrate traditional Scottish music and have musicians from more than two dozen countries involved. It will include everything the bagpipes can offer, from Highland music to techno-piping from Australia.
The festival’s director Roddy MacLeod said: “The event is shaping up to be bigger than ever.”
