What’s going on with Cannes?
So what’s going on with the Re-Invention Tour Documentary? Will it premiere in Cannes in May as rumoured or shall we pay attention to the latest gossip claiming that Madonna and Jonas Akerlund didn’t manage to be included in the Festival programme?
To have a look at the first reports about the documentary release date we have to get back to the Re-Invention Tour summer.
• MTV.com reported in June 2004 about the hope of Madonna “to have her next feature-length documentary ready to debut at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival”.
• When the fans had a chance to speak to the documentary crew all along the tour they also got an estimated “a year from now” time frame. Have a look at what our friends Jamesy and Sharon reported back in August 2005.
• Later on, sources close to Warner France revealed that the documentary was provisionally called “The Re-Invented Process” and the same was once again reported to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival: at the present time the scheduled date is Saturday 21 May – premieres in London, New York, Los Angeles and Paris are hoped to follow in June 2005, fellow fansite madonnalicious.com reported back in March 2005
• The Internet Movie Database has also started listing info about the “Re-Invented Process” last month with a release date of May, 22, 2005 at the Cannes Film Festival.
• On April 8 “Le Film Français” – the French Variety – featured an article about the movies that are confirmed to be part of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, a few days before the official press release due to be distributed on April 19th and included Madonna‘s documentary is in the “absolutely certain” column.
• And then here they come the (only) contradicting reports. The Daily Mail and later on Contactmusic both reported yesterday that “Madonna’s hopes of securing a screening of her new documentary at the Festival de Cannes next month have been dashed after organisers snubbed her movie, described as “interesting” by a selection panel that reportedly judged the overall quality of the project failed to meet the festival’s notoriously high standards.”
While all Madonna fans hope that this is just a gossip rumour – but certainly worth a mention on a fansite’s newspage – let’s end this report with something sure: the official program of the Festival de Cannes will be announced next Tuesday, April 19, as reported earlier this month by “Le Film Français”.
At Madonna‘s camp, the intention to present the documentary in Cannes has been confirmed by the lady herself in her letter to the fans just published on Icon #43.
We understand that there will be an official announcement when time is due. In the meantime, let’s be patient (well let’s keep finger crossed bien sure) and keep checking Madonna’s official website, madonna.com.
