A Special night in Philly
Our friend DJ Barney wants to share his Philadephia show review with our readers:
“After watching this show 25 times as of this afternoon before heading off to
see number 26, I’m constantly being asked by people… Aren’t you sick of
seeing this show??. .Isn’t it the same songs & show every night. .Are you
just down right MAD?!?!?!. Well to answer this questions honestly YES YES
YES!!!!!
HOWEVER..
If I went to the show a hundred more times before tonight, there is still
nothing more special to me then when she hits my home town! So no matter how
well I know the show, expect to hear her say the same jokes, and sing the same
songs, it feels all new again. Like the very first time if you will.
Madonna took the stage, at a rather later then usual, 8:50 PM tonight at the
Wachovia Center in South Philadelphia. For the second time on this tour I
was joined by my boyfriend, and with the exception of Coachella & the first
night Vegas, this makes his third time ever seeing Madonna with his own eyes.
While he is not a regular Madonna fan, exposing him to her gave him a totally
new appreciation for her. This guy who could care less about pop music a few
months ago, I now catch in the corner of my eyes him singing along & moving to
music (In the best way he can try to prevent me of knowing I of course.)
While the songs were the same, and the heat was as hot as ever, Madonna‘s
show did have one element that was unique to all other shows thus far. Much like
when The Girlie Show hit Philadelphia it managed to add a new piece of
wardrobe to the show. As you remember during Everybody in the Girlie Show
Madonna wore a simple white shirt. When her tour hit Philly we had the World
Series of Baseball directly across the street at Veterans Stadium. To show
support for Philadelphia, the ONLY city Madonna has NEVER skipped on ANY of her
tours, she wore a Philadelphia Phillies Jersey to show support for the team.
After that special show she added sports jerseys & shirts of local cities on
select stops of the rest of the tour. Well I’m sure tonight.s little wardrobe
addition will most likely never happen again, during Let It Will Be an audience
member handed Madonna a White Cowboy hat. She snatched it out of his hand
and wore it for a good portion of the song before throwing it out to the
audience on the other side of the catwalk. As soon as she took that Hat & put it on
her head I turned to my boyfriend and said that Hat is going to be the talk
of the Internet tomorrow!
During her Monologue she made comments about a man who wasn’t as full as
energy as she expected, and even asked him if he paid for his tickets or got
them for free. She asked the say question of people the 3rd night in Boston. He
told her that he paid for his seat, and she told he better act like, and if
he wanted to be her front row bitch he needs to lighten up.
Just a few other little noteworthy Madonna Only In Philly facts:
• When Girlie Show was in Philly it featured the only time Madonna ever pulled an audience member on to stage with her.
• Her first ever Television performance. Dick Clark’s American Bandstand was in Philly. “I Want To Rule The World!”.
• Was the first US city of the Drowned World Tour,
• Was the first city to get the limited “You’ll See” performances in The Drowned World Tour.
• The original Live Aid.
• Did I mention we are the only US city she has NEVER skipped on any of her tours!!!! She LOVES us!”
