Cardiff’s Date With Madonna
Welsh newspaper South Wales Echo is reporting about the anticipation for Madonna’s Confessions Tour, which is said to open its European leg bringing the Queen of Pop to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, that would make her first show in Galles ever.
“Pop superstar Madonna is expected to kick off her tour with a massive concert at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
The American singer is believed to be announcing the dates for her forthcoming tour of disco album “Confessions On A Dance Floor” on Monday.
And the Echo understands the first date of her European tour will be right here in Wales at the capital’s Millennium Stadium, also playing host to The Rolling Stones, Take That, and The Eagles this year.
Tour news website ultimatemadonna.com has reported that as well as the UK, Madonna is understood to be playing in Italy, Germany, France, Russia and the Czech Republic.
The tour is likely to run in the summer, from July to September.
And fans are already eager to snap up tickets for the show, which would be Madonna’s first ever in Cardiff.
Alison Graham, 25, a marketing manager from Cowbridge Road East, Canton, Cardiff, said: “I’ve seen other performances at the Millennium Stadium but seeing Madonna would be the best. Like a Prayer is my favourite song and it would be amazing to see it performed live.”
Suzanne Binnie, 27, an accounts manager who lives in Cardiff Bay, said: “It’s very exciting news. I really like Madonna and I’d love to see her show.”
“It’s good that we’re getting such big names at the stadium.”
It is thought Madonna, who recently reached number one with “Sorry“, wants to perform on a Seventies-style stage with a spinning platform and disco balls. The singer already has a link to South Wales, as the van featured in the video for Sorry was given a disco makeover by local firms.
No-one at the Millennium Stadium was available to comment on the tour.
