I Want You – Now and Then
The MadonnaTribe team always loves to take a walk down memory lane. October has always been a very prolific month for
Madonna releases. In October 1995 the stunning cover of
Marvin Gaye‘s 1976 hit song I Want You was released for the first time
on the cd compilation Inner City Blues: A Tribute to Marvin Gaye. The Madonna collaboration with
group Massive Attack was also included on the ballad collection Something To Remember along with an
alternate version, Orchestral Version. A Black and White video of the song, made to promote Inner City Blues was released to MTV
and VH-1. The video is directed by Earle Sebastian and remains unreleased commercially.
Amazing promotional shots of Madonna on the set were used in magazines around the world and some of them made it
on her official 1997 calendar.
And now back to the present – October 2006 also sees the release of another cover of I Want You. Motown legend Diana Ross
has just released her own version of the song on her new
album “I Love You“. The song really means a lot to her as it was co-written by her late brother Arthur T-Boy Ross.
