Today November 3rd is the day of Saint Martin De Porres, the first black saint, portrayed in Madonna’s controversial video from 1989 Like A Prayer. Often referred to by the press as the “the black Christ” kissing Madonna in the Mary Lambert directed video, Martin De Porres was born in Lima, Per? on December 9th 1579. Before “making that special appearance” in Madonna’s video in March 1989 he was proclamed by pope Paul VI as the patron of hairdressers in 1966.
