“I had read stories about the tour, something about Madonna wearing a crown of thorns while being crucified on a mirrored cross. It all sounded pretty amazing.
I had also read that Madonna had scheduled to release her next single, Get Together the very same day that I was scheduled to see her in Fresno. At that point I decided this had to be the next song in my story.
Yes, Madonna and I were still in sync with one another and about to get together once again.
Several times throughout the night Madonna came down the cat walk where we were standing, looked directly into my eyes, paused for what I felt was an eternity and sang directly to me. The first time it happened I wondered if she was really seeing me or just looking at me, concentrating on her performance. I couldn’t do anything except smile really big. The second and third time it happened I actually felt like she was singing directly to me. The connection was amazing, but what happened at the end is hard to describe. I’m still in shock actually.
It was close to the end of the show and Madonna was performing Hung Up. She was all over the stage, dancing up and down the cat walk. During the point where she was asking for audience participation, she had everyone singing “Time. Goes. By. So. Slowly.” It was fun giving her back the energy that she had given us all night. Right before she closed the show she came down to where Steve and I were standing, pointed the mike at the two of us and had us sing the chorus. At the same time the cameraman was standing next to Madonna and filming us. Madonna continued to look directly into my eyes so all I could do was sing to the top of my lungs for her, as if to say “THANK YOU with all my heart for everything.” That incredible moment ended when she returned to center stage, finished the song and disappeared with her dancers behind the final curtain.
As Steve and I were leaving the arena two girls recognized us and said, “There they are, the two guys that were singing on the big screen at the end of the show.” It was at this point that we realized our images had been projected onto the big screen while singing to Madonna. We became all giddy inside and couldn’t stop laughing. I had a hard time soaking in what had just happened. It felt so surreal. Steve said it was the most amazing concert he had ever attended. I knew one thing was for sure, it would be close to impossible to ever top this show for me.
I felt like Madonna and I finally Got Together, for the very first time and it wasn’t an illusion.
The show was completely amazing. We looked forward to seeing the show again the following night.”
Thanks to Chris.
