Memorabilia Auctioned
The original Rolling Stones tongue icon, a Jimi Hendrix guitar and a black bustier worn by Madonna have sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds at an auction of rock memorabilia in London.
A spokeswoman for promoter Magnum Communications said overnight that Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and former bass player Bill Wyman both watched the tongue artwork sell for £250,000 ($620,000)
It was one of 160 lots sold at the “It’s More Than Rock ‘n’ Roll” auction Wednesday at the Sound venue in London’s Leicester Square, fetching a total of £860,000 ($2.1 million).
A Fender Stratocaster guitar owned by Jimi Hendrix went for £ 60,000 ($149,000) and a black bustier worn by Madonna on her Who’s That Girl tour sold for £5000 ($12,400).
The spokeswoman said a percentage of the profits would go to the Cancer Research UK charity.
About 150 people attended the auction, including members of bands The Clash and Thin Lizzy.Source: news.ninemsn.com.au and www.thefamebureau.com
