• Hey tribers my name is Wyatt. It’s hard to pick just one; however, Drowned World (Substitute For Love) is one that comes to mind. That song has so many levels of retrospection for me. I have struggled with addictions. Drugs, alcohol, sex, and money. All of those things I have tried to substitute for love I didn’t have. Of course I have friends and family, who I know love me. There was always something missing. So when she sings:
Famous faces, far off places
Trinkets I can buy
No handsome stranger, heady danger
Drug that I can try
No ferris wheel, no heart to steal
No laughter in the dark
No one-night stand, no far-off land
No fire that I can spark
That always struck a cord with me. That was me. So when I went to see her in DC on the Drowned World Tour (my very first time) so many emotions came flowing in my veins. I’m much a different person now. I’m working on my addictions, I’ve also discovered Kabala, and I realize nothing can substitute for love except loving yourself first, and loving those around you.
