Neurotica returns
M-Tribe friend, comedian David Gurland wants to personally inform our readers that his successful show Neurotica returns this summer for three shows only.
David will present 3 special performances of his collaboration with musical director and arranger Michael Holland at the Metropolitan room, New York?s hottest music venue. Gurland?s critically acclaimed show, Neurotica, premiered in May 2005 and covers twenty of Madonna?s hit songs from the early 80?s through the present, with many surprises along the way. Since May of 2005, Neurotica enjoyed sold out crowds and rave reviews with its unique mergence of rock music and the theatricality of a cabaret show. In addition to the arrangements and musical direction, award winning songwriter/singer/instrumentalist Michael Holland will be playing guitar and piano. Neurotica also features Rob Maitner (back-up vocals), Jerry Smith (percussion), Jonathan Tomaselli (back-up vocals) and Matt Wigton (bass).
John Hoglund of Back Stage Magazine says Gurland?s Neurotica is ?one of the most exciting outings of the season? and that ?Gurland is in better voice than ever and everything he sings is fully realized…he illuminates the stage with a vibrant presence that is sexy, funny, and sensual. Much like Madonna, Gurland pushes peoples buttons, reinvents the norm?and it all works.” HX Magazine raves that “Gurland beautifully proves that the songs written by and for Madonna are every bit as well-crafted, smart and emotionally searching as any golden age showtune, while throwing in teasing hints of camp and trashy queer sexuality. His high, soaring tenor powerfully conveys Maddie’s landscapes of desire and regret, joy and fear.” “The combination of Gurland’s terrific voice and Holland’s fabulous arrangements proved relevatory.” David Hurst, Next Magazine
