News about Madonna at Coachella
Special thanks to ZOMBIE from Madonnamad for sharing this info with MadonnaTribe! From ZOMBIE:
“I spoke to Paul Tollett today, who works for Goldenvoice and was responsible for booking Madonna at Coachella. It was quite cool actually.. he’s a really nice guy. I just sent an email to them via the Coachella site and it got passed to him, who told me to give him a call. So here’s a few details I can pass on to you. He was apprehensive about me posting it, but I promised I’d tell you that NOTHING is guaranteed and that details change with the artists all the time (in other words, don’t get pissed off at him if things change).
• The set will likely be 45-50 minutes. I know, that seems short to some, but it’s pretty much a standard Coachella set. He says she’ll definitely play more than “a few songs”. He wanted to point out for fans it will be awesome, but this isn’t a madonna concert. he wants tons of people to go, but if you are looking for a 2 hour extravaganza, you’ll probably just want to wait for the tour.
• The set is going to be far more elaborate than anything they’ve done at Coachella. The Sahara tent is going to be much bigger than ever, and on top of that, there will be a big opening (i think he said 13 feet wide) so that even people who can’t get a good place in the tent can view from the outside. So it will be more canopy than tent. He wanted to make sure I knew that with previous tents, it was more difficult for people to get a look unless they were in the tent (because of the openings of the tent were set up and a lot of the wiring and hardware on the inside of the tent), and that this won’t be as much of an issue.
• I asked him what we should expect in terms of set production. he said he’s basically doing whatever she wants, and that’s a lot… but that to us, it will be more like a scaled down version of her tours. He didn’t have many details yet on her performance, except to say it was going to be huge.
• Madonna is VERY excited about this, and very excited about playing in the Sahara Tent. She specifically chose it to be associated with dance peers like Oakenfold and Daft Punk, and to have a closer connection to her fans.
Sorry if i can’t remember everything he said – to be honest i was a little flustered that he took my call at all and was so nice! It’s cool what a polite little email can get you.”
Thank you again for the exciting news Zombie!
