Rolling with Madonna
A skater is appearing in the video for Madonna‘s latest single. Simone Wells, from St Paul’s Cray, is gracing screens across the globe in the video for the pop star’s single “Sorry“, which was released on Monday in the UK.
The member of Orpington-based rollerskating club Meridian RDFC, she auditioned just before Christmas and had given up hope of success, until January when, as she languished in bed with flu, Ms Wells was told she had been chosen.
The dancer said: “The only information given to me by the agency was that it was for a pop video for a major world-renowned artist. They needed roller-skaters for a roller-disco scene. My first guess, (which proved to be correct!) was that it had to be Madonna. I soon forgot all about it, assuming that I had not been chosen as I hadn’t heard anything after a week, especially considering that the audition had been very busy with many very talented skaters.
“Then I got a call from my agency telling me that I was in. I was very excited, and hoped I would be well enough to attend. Luckily, I felt much better by the time we came to film.”
Ms Wells was only told the top-secret location of the shoot at the last minute. She added: “We worked long and hard on set, spending almost nine hours on skates just for that one scene.”
“It was an amazing experience to work with such a major artist.”
