Vespera’s Future Lovers
I remember when the first rumours of Madonna hitting the road again
first came up: “She can never top the re-Invention World Tour,” I
heard myself saying. Confessions On A Dancefloor was just out and even
though I liked most of the songs, the album was never my favourite.
So, the idea of another tour based on that very album seemed not very
appealing to me… at that time.
Early April, everyone was waiting for the official tour announcement
from madonna.com and I had my hopes up that maybe it will become as
aesthetic and artistic as her previous show. But… what a
disappointment! The simplest of all possible tour names, second-hand
artwork from the COADF album and rushed pre-sales. Only the fact that
she was gonna do Germany kept me going..
It wasn’t until the first details about the setlist came up I got
excited about the Confessions Tour: “Like A Virgin,” “Live To Tell,”
“Paradise (Not For Me)” and “Erotica” were more than I had ever hoped
for! The provisional setlist still had a bit too much of COADF in it
for my liking, but I was willing to overlook that for the time being.
I found myself imagining what the opener would be like and shared my
thoughts with the Tribe on this very site:
I can so see Future Lovers as the opener for the new tour…
I imagine it to be like Drowned World/Substitute For Love back in 2001…
when the music starts all the dancers and musicians enter…
the stage is setting itself up…
and with “connect to the sky”…
Madonna appears!
As I found out later, my prediction wasn’t so off the mark!
Since that day, despite the missing originality, the Confessions Tour
had me hooked big time. Images of the W Magazine shoot with Steven
Klein would pop up and get me even more excited as I had to find out
that at least the Tourbook and the Costumes seemed able to exceed my
high expections. Talks of crosses and descending disco balls made my
eyes sparkle.
Now, a few days into the Opening Night, I cannot wait for this years
summer to come… until the day that I will get to see what Madonna
has in store for us once more.
See you in London, Duesseldorf and Amsterdam!
