A message of support to ”Idol Gives Back”

Madonna has been added to American Idol‘s charity spectacular tonight after recording a videotaped message urging TV viewers to be more invested in current affairs in Africa.

The star-studded live Idol Gives Back special, which will be co-hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will also feature Bono, Borat, Keira Knightley and Hugh Grant, and performances from Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Gwen Stefani, Annie Lennox and past Idol winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

The two hour show will benefit African and American children in need.

Bono and Dave Stewart have written a new aid anthem, American Prayer, especially for the broadcast. The song will be preformed for the first time by the current six Idol finalists on the show.
