A new Madonna biography on the cover of ”Bent”
Madonna graces the cover of the August 2007 issue of Bent Magazine, the UK’s largest free gay magazine, with a classic promotional shot by Steven Klein for the “Confessions” album.
The magazine cover story is a two page article about “Madonna- Like An Icon“, a new biography book by Lucy O’ Brien coming out from Bantam Press.
Lucy – who is also am a major fan of MadonnaTribe, has been a UK music writer for over 20 years, and has published acclaimed biographies on Dusty Springfield and Annie Lennox, and “She Bop”, a
history of women in popular music.
She has recently finished her book on Madonna’s life and work, focusing on her as an artist, and exploring in detail her music and live shows.
“Madonna is the biggest female pop star in the world yet there is no serious biography of her, and no biography at all by a woman” – the publisher’s website says about the new book. “Existing books are either gossipy style manuals or rehashes of press cuttings and they all end in 2001 with Madonna’s marriage to Guy Ritchie. Yet her story hardly ends there, as evinced by her two record breaking world tours since then…”
“Lucy O’Brien’s extensive and well-researched biography will look at Madonna the artist, giving detailed analysis of her music, complete with revealing interviews with musicians and producers. It will focus on her cultural impact and the way she uses cinema, photography, visual art, theatre and dance in her work. It will take an in-depth look at how – and, more to the point, why – Madonna has reinvented herself through her twenties, thirties, forties and will no doubt do so again in her fifties. It will also look at the wider context and include interviews with similarly crusading female artists like Tori Amos, Laurie Anderson, Jeanette Winterson and Tracey Emin.”
“Madonna“, by Lucy O’Brien, is a 432 page book retailing at £18.99 and can also be purchased from the publisher’s website by clicking here.
