A sense of knowing what’s in store for her
On September 2006, a new book with Madonna on the cover was published in the United States. “On The Street: 1980-1990” is a 104 page book featuring pictures by photographer Amy Arbus taken in New York City.
Published by Welcome Books, “On The Street” includes a great Madonna photograph on the cover – a shot taken at St. Marks Place on East Village in 1983, on the very same day her “Everybody” single hit the charts.
Here is an excerpt from The Morning News where Amy Arbus talks about capturing that special moment.
“So, one day you’re walking down the street, and here comes Madonna…”
Amy Arbus: Madonna just wandered along like everyone else. I recognized her as the girl who went to my gym – as the girl who would sit around naked longest in the locker room. Now that I think back on it, how could either of us have afforded a gym membership? She still had a last name at that point, and when I told her I worked for the Voice, she said, “Oh, that’s so funny. They’re reviewing my first single this week“. I recently looked back – it only took six frames to get that picture. I just think the look on her face is so prescient – it really has a sense of knowing what’s in store for her.
