Dominatrix and Gabbana
Far from being unusual to hear Madonna‘s music at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show, but yesterday, when their latest collection was shown in Milan, you really didn’t know if you were attending a fashion show or a “Confessions”
concert.
Last monday Disco Inferno and Madonna’s Like a Virgin were played as a background to their D&G collection.
Yesterday it was a continuos sequence of Future Lovers, I Feel Love, Erotica, a reprise of Future Lovers, and Forbidden Love making the soundtrack of their 2008 Dolce & Gabbana main line.
It might have been the very dark setting, the long runway, the sculptured stage slightly resembling an open “Confessions Tour” disco ball… And the international press got the connection strong and loud.
The International Herald Tribune” even called the duo “Dominatrix & Gabbana“, saying that “the sexed-up collection that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana sent out Thursday was an ironic take on erotica, with metallic whips and eye masks as the new must-have accessories and a backdrop of a silver sex parlor where the models formed a chain gang.”
“On the soundtrack was Madonna – from her new album and the 1992 “Erotica.” – the newspaper continues – “And there lies the conundrum of this collection. Hasn’t fashion and popular culture been exploring all that dark sex stuff for more than a decade? Dior’s haute couture take on hookers and S- and-M was scandalous in its time and created a fashion moment. This Dolce & Gabbana reprise was a re-mix, taking in new fabrics and techniques, along with their familiar leopard print, but mostly dealing in the dramatic showmanship that Dolce shows have increasingly displayed since a Milan theater became the venue.”
As usual, a live video recording of the show is available at the Dolce&Gabbana website.
