Evita’s Final Broadcast
After a run of a little less than a year, the West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice‘s classic musical Evita will close this spring.
Starring Elena Roger in the title role as the ambitious Argentinian first lady, with Philip Quast as Juan Peron and Matt Rawle as Che, Evita will play its last performance on May 26th.
Evita opened to glowing reviews at the Adelphi Theatre on June 21st, 2006 after beginning previews on June 2nd. It was originally slated to run through February 3rd, 2007, but its run was extended. Last month, it was announced that the show’s booking period was scheduled through December 15th.
Evita, which was recently nominated for three Olivier Awards, is helmed by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage, choreographed by Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Doctor Doolittle), with Christopher Oram as the main designer; the three last collaborated on the smash revival of Guys and Dolls that is playing at the Picadilly Theatre. The revival is produced by Lloyd Webber’s Very Useful Group. From: baltimore.broadwayworld.com
