Here come the ”Songs of Mass Destruction”
The new album by Annie Lennox “Songs of Mass Destruction” has finally hit the stores today in those countries where the new releases come out on Fridays and Madonna Tribe is happy to give to both Madonna and Annie’s fans a first look at the packaging of the 2 Disc Limited Edition that features the album, artist commentary, the video for the first single “Dark Road” and more.
The CD also contains links to Annie’s official website and to the brand new site devoted to her fourth album, songsofmassdestruction.info where you can listen to the album, watch video clips and interviews, read press and fans’ reviews, see fan pictures from flickr and more.
As you can see by the images below “Sing” – the HIV Aids anthem Annie has written and recorded with the “Choir of 23” internationally renowned women artists, and The Generics – Treatment Action Campaign’s vocal group – has an absolute prominence also in the disc packaging design.
The page with the lyrics for “Sing” is also the only white page in a set made of black backdrop ones or dark coloured portraits of Annie – and features a layout similar to the one of the special website we showed you in our previous news item.
Talking about “Sing” in the album’s audio commentary disc, Annie says that the song will be a platform to focus on the issue of HIV/AIDS and women and children. “It’s a female anthem” – Annie says – “and I have invited many other internationally renowned female singers who are all very well known, including the likes of Madonna, Celine Dion, Joss Stone, just amazing, Anastasia’s on it.”
Annie says she’s very proud of it and describes the 23 female artists singing in the chorus of “Sing” as “phenomenal”.
Annie also talks about “The Generics”, who are members of Treatment Action Campaign as well as a musical group who sing about different aspects of activism on their CD.
Annie also mentions the reason that led her to write a track such as “Sing“, explaining that she asked herself “What can I do?” and then come up with the idea to write an anthemic song, that she compares to “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” and maybe use one of the songs by “The Generics”.
“I took the introduction to their song and dove-tailed it into my song and then the outro comes back to the Generics again – so that puts it into a context that I am singing about HIV AIDS”, Annie explains, mentioning the African chant that is among the exclusive info about the song that MadonnaTribe.com reported here first, in the past few months. “Sing” is set to be released as a single in the UK in December, probably to coincide with World Aids Day. (12-1-2007).
