I Am Because We Are

If you have been wondering about what’s the movie that Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell went to see in a private screening the other day in New York City, you get your answer straight from the horse’s mouth.

Rosie herself reveals in her Ask Ro section of her online website Rosie.com that the movie is no else than Madonna’s documentary – and how the new movie is to be called:

“I am because we are” is an elegant translation of the Nguni word “Ubuntu“.

It’s a beautiful sentiment, sometimes also translated as “humanity to others“, with implications that extend much further. It lies behind much that is deeply appealing about African culture.
