Madonna and child visit care centre
Madonna has visited a new day care centre she is funding in Malawi, one of the world’s poorest, most disease-stricken countries.
David Banda, the Malawian toddler that Madonna is in the process of adopting, was with her.
The pop star was greeted by singing children as she toured the school, which is being run by a local charity Consol Homes.
The school will eventually provide education and food for up to 4,000 children from surrounding rural areas, trying to break the vicious cycle of lack of education, hunger and sickness that afflicts many Malawians.
The pop star caused international controversy last year when she took David from an orphanage back to London.
But her latest visit to Malawi has won praise from locals that she cares for their plight.
