Madonna Confessions Tour Calgary screening review
“I have never been to a Madonna concert. I am, however, an avid collector of Madonna’s tours on DVD, and was particularly excited about seeing her “Confessions Tour” DVD come out after watching the broadcast on NBC. Of course, when I won the contest with MadonnaTribe, I was thrilled! This would be the closest thing I had ever gotten to seeing Madonna live…and it was just the beginning.
The line-up was a fair size. Not only were tickets distributed from MadonnaTribe, but from other websites as well, including our radio station Vibe 98.5’s website. Warner Music Canada also distributed a bunch of passes to the local gay club, which resulted in a large group of the club’s regulars to be present at the event. These guys sure made a fuss when the show was about to start… and who could blame them? They were die-hard Madonna fans!
Right before the show started, the radio DJ held a few mini trivia contests to win prize-packs. When I was asked Madonna’s last name (and answered correctly of course), I won a prize pack, which consisted of a limited edition poster, two movie tickets and the “Confessions Tour” CD/DVD!
And for the show? The sound was amazing! The visuals, even more. The large amount of editing in “Let it Will Be” was a bit strange for the big screen, but the rest of the show worked perfectly well in the auditorium. “Drowned World / Substitute for Love” was very beautifully sung, and “Paradise (Not for Me)” had an edge to it that the original did not (especially with Isaac doing the backing leads). Some people even lit their lighters (as silly as it seems) during these slower songs. While that was a bit odd, the clapping and audience participation during and after individual performances only added to the feeling of reality that the auditorium gave. Seeing Donna de Lory and Nicki Richards in “Lucky Star” was a very special treat, even if the camera barely glances at them.
All-in-all, it was an absolutely electrifying and amazing experience! Thank you MadonnaTribe, for a night I’ll never forget!
