Madonna’s Femme Fatale
Six columnists from

have selected their favourite femme fatales from movies of any era.
Madonna, as Breathless Mahoney (Dick Tracy) and Rebecca Carlson (Body Of Evidence)
can be found among the “honorable mentions” by Bryan Kristopowitz:
• Breathless Mahoney (Madonna), in Dick Tracy (1990):
I think this is a pretty easy choice, simply because Madonna’s whole persona, even to a degree to this day,
is the somewhat bad woman that, if you’re a man and you start messing around with her, things aren’t going to
end well for you. In Dick Tracy, she was lounge singer Breathless Mahoney, main squeeze of Al Pacino’s Big
Boy Caprice and willing skank to Warren Beatty’s Tracy. His interaction with Mahoney certainly puts a damper
on his romance with Glenne Headly’s Tess Trueheart and, well, leads him on the road to the slammer and all
that other stuff that happened to him. Bad stuff.
• Rebecca Carlson (Madonna), in Body of Evidence (1993):
The only thing I remember about this movie, and I’m pretty sure that it’s the only thing most people remember
about it, is the hot wax sex Madonna has with Willem Dafoe’s lawyer character Frank Dulaney. Dulaney oh so
much wanted to bang Carlson (he was defending her at the time), but look at him in those sex scenes. He’s
strangely uncomfortable about the whole thing. It doesn’t stop him from destroying his life and all, but he sure
seems to be thinking “maybe this isn’t such a good idea.” For at least a few minutes.
